ITAD for businesses: Recover value rather than dispose of equipment
Certified data erasure · Resale value payout · ITAD dashboard · Nationwide collection
Residual value instead of disposal costs
Decommissioned IT hardware is not a disposal problem, but tied-up capital. IT-RESELL trades in enterprise hardware on a daily basis – from HPE servers through to Cisco networking equipment and NVIDIA GPU systems. That is why we recognise residual values that pure disposal operators overlook.
We handle the entire process, including certified data erasure in accordance with NIST 800-88 with proof of erasure for each serial number, insured logistics and payment of the residual value instead of a disposal invoice.
What is ITAD?
ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) is the systematic decommissioning of used IT hardware: inventory taking, certified data erasure, residual value assessment, remarketing and – where necessary – certified recycling. The aim is to eliminate data protection risks and realise the market value of the equipment for the company.
Why IT-RESELL gets more out of your hardware
Most ITAD providers have a background in waste disposal and simply outsource the marketing. We come from the hardware trade and carry out certified data erasure.
That is the key difference when it comes to your return: we do not value items based on a flat-rate list, but at model and configuration level; we recycle components individually rather than disposing of them as a lump sum – and document every step in an audit-proof manner in the ITAD dashboard.
We are the secondary market ourselves
IT-RESELL buys, inspects and sells enterprise hardware to customers at home and abroad every day. We do not value items based on a flat-rate list, but at the model and configuration level – a DL380 Gen10 with dual Xeon Gold processors and 512 GB RAM is quite different from the base model. This market knowledge is directly incorporated into your quote.
Component-specific recycling
Every asset undergoes standardised hardware diagnostics comprising over 20 individual tests. What no longer has a market as a complete system, we recycle at component level: CPUs, RAM modules, SSDs, power supplies, GPUs. This creates residual value where others see only scrap weight.
Audit-proof documentation
From the handover report and the chain of custody right through to the digitally signed proof of data erasure for each serial number: every step is traceable in the ITAD dashboard and can be accessed for ten years. Your auditor receives a complete chain of custody, not a jumble of documents.
The ITAD Dashboard: Your project in real time
With other ITAD providers, transparency ends at the loading bay – after that, you’ll eventually receive a PDF.
With IT-RESELL, you can see live what’s happening to every single asset.
From goods receipt to proof of disposal – one project, live on the dashboard.
Live asset tracking
Every serial number, from goods receipt through decommissioning and valuation to marketing or disposal – the chain of custody as a live view rather than a file folder.
Decommissioning certificates by serial number
Every digitally signed decommissioning certificate is exactly where your auditor expects it to be: with the asset. Accessible individually, exportable as a batch.
All documents, for 10 years
Final reports, disposal certificates, credit notes and AVV – centrally stored, accessible for ten years, exportable in audit-ready format.
ESG metrics per project
Reuse rate, emissions avoided and project-specific CO₂ savings verification – ready to be incorporated directly into your CSRD/ESG reporting.
Direct line of communication
Clarify queries about the project directly in the dashboard rather than via email chains. Your contact person sees the same status as you do.
Hosting in Germany
Your project data remains on German servers – GDPR-compliant, with no data routing via third countries.

On-site ITAD: audit, rack dismantling and insured IT collection
ITAD doesn’t start at the loading bay, but on your premises. For complex inventories, server rooms and data centres, we handle the entire physical process – with our own specialist staff, without your IT team having to touch the racks.
On-site audit & site survey
Our technicians inspect your premises, server rooms and warehouses together with you: taking stock down to serial number level, assessing condition and providing photographic documentation. The result is a reliable asset list forming the basis for the purchase calculation – no estimates based on remote diagnosis.
Professional Dismantling & Removal
Rack removal, decabling and dismantling of server, storage and network equipment by trained staff – carried out in accordance with ESD standards and without disrupting ongoing operations. We take the racks away with us. Outside your business hours or at weekends, if required.
Packaging & Load Securing
Transport-safe packaging on pallets and in roll containers, ESD protection for sensitive components, and professional load securing. This ensures that the residual value arrives at the warehouse undamaged – and not as transport damage.
Insured logistics
Nationwide collection with insured transport, a handover report and a seamless chain of custody from your premises. From a single server cabinet to multi-stage data centre decommissioning with partial collections.
On request, we’ll leave the room completely empty. We handle entire racks, whole data centres and office set-ups – including everything that goes with them: cabling, PDUs, UPS systems, monitors, docking stations, telephone systems and peripherals. You hand over the premises, we clear them out – documented right down to the last serial number.
Residual value instead of disposal costs
Traditional disposal costs money. ITAD turns the equation on its head: the market value of the reusable equipment covers the costs of logistics and data erasure – and any surplus is paid out to you.
A typical example from an office refresh, broken down on the right. The actual payout depends on the model, generation, configuration and condition of your hardware.
| Item (example project) | Value |
|---|---|
| 120 × business laptops (3–4 years old) | + €9,600 |
| 4 × servers + 6 × switches | + €3,800 |
| Logistics, data erasure, documentation | − €2,400 |
| Certified disposal of non-recyclable equipment | €0 |
| Payment to your company | + €11,000 |
Traditional disposal vs. ITAD with IT-RESELL
Traditional disposal
Disposal charge per tonne / item

Reuse first, raw material recovery in Europe as the final stage
Market value at model and configuration level, by component if necessary
When organisations need ITAD
Hardware Refresh & Rollout
New devices arrive, old ones must go – ITAD as an integral part of the rollout: collection, data erasure, credit note.
Data centre decommissioning
Consolidation, cloud migration or site closure: servers, storage and networks are dismantled, wiped and resold.
End of lease
Handling returned equipment with full documentation – including proof of data erasure for the leasing company.
Business liquidation & insolvency
Rapid, legally compliant realisation of entire IT inventories with a transparent breakdown of proceeds – leaving the premises empty and ready for handover, if required.
AI generational change
Latest-generation GPU systems lose a massive amount of value with every new launch. Those who sell early can realise four-figure residual values per accelerator.
Old stock in storage
Hardware depreciates in value every month. Stock sitting in the warehouse takes up space and reduces residual value – the sooner it is valued, the higher the proceeds.
Current ITAD projects
Data centre assets with a residual value in the range of several six-figure sums
Complete takeover of a data centre site: servers, storage and network technology. Purchase valuation at configuration level, certified data erasure, payment in the range of several six-figure sums instead of disposal costs.
Site IT with interim reports per batch
Ongoing collection and recycling of client hardware for a charitable organisation – with interim reports, proof of data erasure and a breakdown of proceeds per collection displayed in the dashboard.
GPU cluster purchase funds the generation upgrade
Purchase of a complex GPU/AI server cluster with component-level evaluation – GPU model, VRAM, CPU, interconnect. The proceeds provide the client with fresh funding to upgrade to the next generation of accelerators.
ESG & CSRD: ITAD documentation for your sustainability report
Resale is the circular economy in action – and it’s measurable. For every project, you’ll receive key figures on reused equipment and emissions avoided, ready for use in CSRD and ESG reporting.
Project-specific CO₂ savings certification
A measurable contribution to climate action rather than empty promises: for every project, we can provide a CO₂ savings certificate on request. This quantifies the greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂e) avoided through the reuse of your hardware compared to manufacturing new equipment – calculated in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol and based on the life cycle principles of ISO 14040/14044. You will receive the key figures broken down by device and in an audit-ready format – ready for immediate use in your Scope 3 reporting (e.g. CSRD, EcoVadis).
Recycling in Europe – keeping the cycle closed
Anything that cannot be reused is sent to our regional, certified recycling partner. Recycling takes place exclusively within Europe – no exports to third countries, no non-transparent disposal chains. The recovered raw materials, such as copper, aluminium and precious metals, are incorporated into new products. In this way, we make a valuable contribution to the circular economy.

Frequently asked questions about ITAD
Answers on procedures, data erasure, costs and documentation – from the initial inventory to the final report in the dashboard.
ITAD (IT Asset Disposition) refers to the organised decommissioning of used IT hardware: inventorying, certified data erasure, residual value assessment, remarketing and – where necessary – certified recycling. The aim is to eliminate data protection risks and realise the remaining market value of the equipment.
IT recycling destroys devices and recovers raw materials. ITAD first assesses the market value: a large proportion of business hardware can be resold following certified data erasure – you receive residual value instead of disposal costs. Recycling is only the final stage in ITAD.
Yes. We enter into a data processing agreement (DPA) with you in accordance with Article 28 of the GDPR before data storage media leave our premises. Deletion is carried out using software in accordance with NIST 800-88, with a digitally signed deletion certificate for each serial number; data storage media that cannot be deleted are physically destroyed in accordance with DIN 66399. Transport and storage are fully documented, enabling you to fulfil your accountability obligations under Article 5(2) of the GDPR at all times.
In most projects, you pay nothing – you receive money back. The residual value of the reusable hardware covers logistics, data erasure and documentation; any surplus is paid out to you. Only in the case of stock with no market value are pure disposal and erasure costs incurred, which we calculate transparently in advance.
The entire enterprise spectrum: servers (HPE, Dell, Supermicro, Fujitsu, Lenovo), storage (NetApp, Dell EMC, Huawei), networking equipment (Cisco, Aruba, Juniper), GPU and AI systems (NVIDIA), laptops, desktops, monitors, mobile devices, as well as individual components such as CPUs, RAM and SSDs. We also assess mixed inventories and special cases.
An ITAD project makes economic sense for around 10 to 20 devices. In the case of server, storage or network hardware, as well as GPU systems, an assessment is often worthwhile even for individual devices, as high residual values can be achieved here.
Yes. For complex inventories and data centres, our technicians will inspect your premises, record assets by serial number and condition, and use this information to prepare a purchase quotation. On request, we can also handle the professional dismantling: rack dismantling, decabling, transport-safe packaging and insured logistics – even outside your business hours.
Yes – we take on complete racks, entire data centres and office set-ups, including cabling, PDUs, UPS systems, monitors, docking stations, telephone systems and peripherals. On request, we’ll leave you with an empty room that you can hand back to the landlord straight away or put to new use.
Yes, comprehensively. Every collection is insured and accompanied by a handover report and an asset list. From the moment of handover, every serial number can be tracked in the ITAD dashboard – from transport through to goods receipt, deletion and resale. This chain of custody forms part of the final report.
Once we’ve received your list of devices, we usually provide a quote within 24 hours. Depending on the scope, collection and processing take between a few days and two weeks – including proof of data erasure and the final report in the dashboard.
We hand over equipment that cannot be economically recycled to our regional, certified recycling partner. Recycling takes place exclusively in Europe – raw materials such as copper, aluminium and precious metals are recovered and returned to the cycle without being exported to third countries. You will receive a certificate of disposal in accordance with the ElektroG, and the quantities will be included in your ESG documentation.
Yes, on request we issue a CO₂ savings certificate for every project. It details the greenhouse gas emissions (CO₂e) avoided through the reuse of your hardware compared to manufacturing new equipment – calculated in accordance with the GHG Protocol framework, using independently validated methodology. The data is device-specific, audit-ready and can be used directly for your Scope 3 reporting (CSRD, EcoVadis). Avoided emissions represent a separate contribution to sustainability, not offsetting.
